Bill of Rights:

The following, sets forth your rights as a counselee under the code of ethics of the Washington State Board of Licensed Clinical Professional Counselors and Therapists, Consumers of counseling or therapy services offered by a professional counselor have the right to:

a) Expect that the counselor has met the minimal qualifications of training and experience required by law.

b) To examine public records maintained by the Board and to have the Board confirm credentials of a licensee;

c) To obtain a copy of the Code of Ethics;

d) To report complaints to the Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists;

e) To be informed of the cost of professional services before receiving services;

f) To privacy as defined by rule and law, including the exceptions to confidentiality of information obtained in the course of service that include the following:

1. Reporting suspect child abuse/elder abuse  

2. Reporting imminent danger to client or others    

3. Licensees consultation or supervision

            5. Defense of claims brought by client against licensees.

g) To be free from being the object of discrimination on the basis of race, religion, gender or any other unlawful category while receiving services.
